More Sad News

This is not something I want to start posting on a daily basis, but another great music icon passed away this week. Guru (born Keith Elam) was the former emcee of the legendary hip-hop duo Gang Starr, and he died of a heart attack on April 19th after having fallen into a coma in February. He was only 43. Guru was a hip-hop legend to say the least, and it’s safe to say that this man will never get the respect he deserved for being such a huge part of the rap underground. His latest release was a solo album last year, and while his solo discography is impressive on its own, I’m sure I’m not the only one who will remember him most as the voice that invited us to “step into the arena” back in 1991. I’ll leave you with my personal favorite Gang Starr cut, a beautiful song called “Soliloquy of Chaos” from 1994’s Daily Operation.

R.I.P. Guru (July 17, 1962 – April 19, 2010)
